Welcome back to After School Weekend Edition. Think of the daily letter as the CliffsNotes; this is the extended version for paid subscribers.

Today we’re talking about:

  • J.Crew’s actually-good collaboration

  • Tribeca SAHM TikTok

  • How Beyoncé inadvertently found her way into a viral TikTok sound

  • Teva’s gorpcore sandal of the summer

  • The old-school beauty brand embracing VR and DALL-E

  • The streetwear label partnering with DoorDash

  • How K-Swiss is reinventing itself for Gen Z

  • The return of peplums

  • The sudden coolness of vintage Dooney and Bourke’s

  • The rise of prejuvenation Botox

  • The athleisure-ification of high-fashion

  • Alo Yoga’s AF1 dupe

  • The app “powering NYC’s coolest closets this summer”

  • The hottest place in NYC — the Skims pop-up in Rockefeller Center.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’ve been spending less time on Twitter and more time on TikTok, and that uptick in attention on the app quickly led me to posting on TikTok more, too.

Starting out fresh on a platform is both exhilarating and humbling. My motivation for posting is not to go viral or become an influencer. I just want to 1) understand how this platform works 2) be more comfortable talking into a front-facing camera, which is becoming increasingly necessary across many different jobs and 3) have a better knowledge of short-form video editing, which I think feels like a necessary skill for anyone in a remotely creative industry.

Given how low my personal aspirations are for this app, I was unprepared when I had a TikTok go (minisculely) viral earlier this week — because people were so mad about it.
