I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’ve been spending less time on Twitter and more time on TikTok, and that uptick in attention on the app quickly led me to posting on TikTok more, too.
Starting out fresh on a platform is both exhilarating and humbling. My motivation for posting is not to go viral or become an influencer. I just want to 1) understand how this platform works 2) be more comfortable talking into a front-facing camera, which is becoming increasingly necessary across many different jobs and 3) have a better knowledge of short-form video editing, which I think feels like a necessary skill for anyone in a remotely creative industry.
Given how low my personal aspirations are for this app, I was unprepared when I had a TikTok go (minisculely) viral earlier this week — because people were so mad about it.
