MSCHF invites you to eat the rich; Florence Pugh asks, correctly, “Why are you so scared of breasts?”; The Crown star Emma Corrin is Vogue's first nonbinary cover star; New Zealand pop idol Benee is a voice of the pandemic generation; and a BNPL victory — Klarna’s valuation was just slashed by $39 billion!

TIKTOK IS FULL OF SHADY SECRET ADVERTISEMENTS, vox
Charli D’Amelio has more than 140 million followers, making her the second-most followed account on TikTok. She also has a partnership with MyMuse, a brand of “enhanced” teas that promises immunity support but is full of artificial sweeteners. In a (not sponsored, importantly!) TikTok Q&A, someone asked her, “What’s so special about the muse drink?” to which she responded, “This one’s pretty simple. They’re really good, and I really like them. And they have a lot of different flavors and a lot of health benefits, so.” So.

THE HOT GAME ON TIKTOK: GUESSING LOCATIONS ON GOOGLE MAPS, wapo
In a 54-second video he posted on TikTok last month, Trevor Rainbolt, 23, successfully guessed the vicinity of five different roadside locations from Botswana to Brazil by glancing at pictures of dirt. That video has been viewed more than 8 million times.

WE’RE NOT ASKING FOR THE MOON: MILLENNIALS ON THEIR VERY REAL FEARS ABOUT MONEY., nyt
“On dates I dreaded the conversation about finances, and having to tell somebody like, 'Yeah, I have $50,000 of student debt and I make $18,000 a year.”

THE EXPLOSIVE AMBITIONS OF KATE THE CHEMIST, nyt
Kate Biberdorf, a 36-year-old professor at the University of Texas, is working to catalyze more people — specifically younger people — into careers in science by, among other things, making pop culture analogies. (“I talked about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s marriage as a way to explain double replacement reactions.)

INSIDE SNAPCHAT'S TALENT PARTNERSHIPS TEAM, WHICH HAS GROWN AS CREATORS BECOME A FOCUS FOR THE PLATFORM, insider
After largely ignoring creators for years, Snap is now investing heavily in them. "I get calls at 3:00 am from creators sometimes, and I'm cool with it because it's probably an emergency – like their account got hacked, or they're just curious about a new product." (The fact that her example for a 3 am “emergency” is that “they're just curious about a new product” kills me, lol.)

GEN Z ISN'T THAT INTO DINING OUT, cnn
According to market research company NPD Group, people between the ages of 18 and 24 are ordering from (or at) restaurants at a much lower rate than when Gen Xers or millennials were that age. This seems kind of obvious to me, since so many of us dined out less in the last few years due to the pandemic (and learned to cook for that same reason), and I suspect things will turn around in a few years, when we’re out of the pandemic (hopefully?) and Gen Z has more spending money…
