Hi friends! Welcome back to After School ✨weekend edition✨, an extra long and extra opinionated youth culture digest for paid subscribers.
Happy Halloween weekend to those who celebrate. I like Halloween because I love Reese’s pumpkins, but I’m otherwise pretty indifferent toward the holiday. (The pumpkins are not materially different from Reese’s trees, or hearts, or eggs, but mid-April through mid-Sept is the off-season for novelty Reese’s, and the pumpkins kick off a stretch of time where this superior candy is in abundance).
I do enjoy seeing people around New York dressed up; even when you know Halloween is coming, it’s still a little shocking to see a vampire on the L train or a devil strolling through McCarren Park. TikTok, unsurprisingly, is more enthusiastic about Halloween than I am. #HalloweenCostumeIdeas has 1.8 billion views; #Halloween2022 has another 5.8 billion. It’s not hard to understand why this content hits — TikTok loves a before-and-after transition, and Halloween provides many opportunities for dramatic makeovers. This year’s Halloween content on Twitter was personally more my speed...
Scary, indeed.
Today, we’re talking about:
The $650 mall-brand bag going viral
A “phygital” luggage collab
“The key to presenting wealth”
The Web3 coworking space headquartered above Supreme :/
The hottest product of the quarter
The next "it girl" shoe is a rainboot
Stay-at-home girlfriends
Chillaxing
And everything I’m wearing, buying, watching, etc.
