Why pathetic men are this summer’s hottest accessory
Plus everything else that happened this week in youth culture and what I’m buying/reading/listening to. But first, my favorite TikTok of the week (sorry if you’ve already seen it, but I laughed so hard I cried):
On Friday, I was on CNBC live — in studio for the first time! — talking about trends. Unfortunately, I look like I’m wearing my dad’s button-down, a split-second outfit decision that I have lived to regret. It was pouring rain, I was running late, etc.
I didn’t realize the cameraman would capture my lower half, or else I would not have been nervously fidgeting the whole segment. At least I did not show up in sweatpants.
Kelly Evans and I talked about Starbucks launching boba, the rise (and rise) of Pinterest, what will happen to creators if (when?) there’s a TikTok ban, and the current state of Gen Z spending. It was very fun, even if not everyone enjoyed it.
Speaking of Gen Z spending, I witnessed something in the wild yesterday that I haven’t stopped thinking about.
