Welcome back to After School ✨weekend edition✨. Think of the daily letter as the CliffsNotes; this is the extended version for paid subscribers.
Hello from the road (hence the late send)! I am writing to you from Richmond, Virginia, and will soon be heading out toward Wilmington, North Carolina. Then Savannah. Then a bunch of other places throughout Florida and, ultimately, Key West. If you have any favorites along I-95, I would love to hear them!
Before I left, I had the pleasure of chatting with Danielle Vermeer, who led resale fashion CX at Amazon before leaving to launch a fashion app called Teleport that feels to me like TikTok meets Lookbook.nu.
For those who did not grow up on the same corner of the internet that I did, Lookbook launched in 2008 as an “invite-only Digg for fashion.” The 2000s were a weird, wonderful time on the internet, especially for teenage girls who were obsessed with trends and clothes (old habits die hard). Sites like Lookbook and StyleDiary.net (which I wrote about for Racked a few years ago), as well as personal fashion blogs like Susie Bubble and Fops & Dandies, were a big part of that. OK, that’s enough nostalgia from me — Teleport is super fun and if #FashionTok without the toxicity of TikTok is appealing to you, definitely check it out. (It’s a free app!)
Today, we’re talking about:
