Alibaba is coming for Shein with a new international fashion app; viral Gen Z singer Pinkpantheress’ first major fashion gig is, fittingly, with extremely Gen Z line Heaven by Marc Jacobs; real emoji meanings, as explained by a young person; and Paris Hilton is calling for a ‘bill of rights’ to protect young people.
PINTEREST UNVEILS NEW INFLUENCER FEATURES WITH ITS ‘ALGORITHMIC PLUS EDITORIAL’ MODEL
Pinterest (which, let’s not forget, is weirdly very popular with Gen Z) launched its TikTok-style feature called “Watch”; to entice influencers onto the platform, they’re launching a $20 million “Creator Rewards” monetization program. glossy
The new features will be kicked off with a campaign featuring celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Megan Thee Stallion and Storm Reid. Each is creating Pinterest content prompting people to create “Takes” on the prompts they introduce. Lopez will focus hers on Halloween costumes [ed note: Halloween costumes??? when I think of JLo, “Halloween enthusiast” does not come to mind], and Reid’s will also be focused on fashion. According to Stauffer, many celebrities have already been active on Pinterest privately for years, and the platform is now working with them to create public-facing content.

WELLNESS WATCH: HOW TECHNOLOGY IS IMPACTING WELLNESS
A super interesting look at Gen Z-targeted telehealth/wellness apps, from Wellory (the “anti-diet” nutrition app) to Clementine (pre-recorded hypnotherapy sessions for anxiety, depression and sleep issues) to Be a Looper (gamified daily mental health check-ins). Tbh the gamification of wellness gives me pause, but, as futurist Sinéad Bovell points out, “Gen Z is attracted to the gamification of a lot of services because that’s part of the world that they have been born into…It’s hard for them to even think of a world that was pre-smartphones.” wwd

Also if you were wondering, those Bottega terry slides cost $510 and are pretty much entirely sold out.
YOUTUBE STEPS UP LIVESTREAM SHOPPING FOR THE HOLIDAYS
As more and more established players — Instagram, Facebook, et al. — test live shopping, dedicated livestream shopping startups will have to do more to stand out (PopShop Live, for instance, is building direct relationships with retailers and getting super local). wwd
According to a blog post penned by Tara Walpert Levy, Google’s vice president of agency and brand solutions, YouTube worked with several top creators recently to test new live shopping features. She pointed out that Simply Nailogical launched her new nail polish collection to 2.8 million fans on her channel, and Hyram unveiled his new “Selfless” skin care products to 4.5 million fans.
HINGE TEAMS WITH U.S. SURGEON GENERAL FOR PANDEMIC DATING ADVICE
This really genuinely delights me: Hinge tapped U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy to answer questions like “First kiss during COVID: lean in or turn away?” in a six-minute video. mediapost
One last thought 😇:
