I have noticed them coming on xiaolongshu by waves, some of them are really acting impolitely with a “give me a seat NOW attitude”… i wish they could find another app and stop posting. The app isnt the same as tiktok and the rules of conduct are different.
"Since 2019, girls’ test scores have declined sharply, falling behind boys in reading, math, and science at an “alarming rate.”
I'm sorry, but I highly doubt it's because of more house-hold related duties.
As a mom to three teenage boys, I can tell you that a good deal of this decline can be attributed to social media. Their girl-friends are 1000% more into social than their male counterparts. And it's far more image related too. They seem to be really focused on capturing the male gaze.
As a high school teacher, I agree with this! Maybe also students see influencing online as a viable way to make money so they don’t put as much value on education?
Don’t love the term refugees being used in the title with what’s going on in LA right now. I realize they may call themselves that but I clicked on this thinking it was about people chronicling their escape from the fires on TikTok.
I understand where you're coming from and I'm sorry!
"TikTok refugee" is a phrase that's been used all over the news ("TikTok Refugees Find an Alternative—in China," WSJ; "‘TikTok refugees’ flock to another (heavily censored) Chinese app," Wapo) so I did not anticipate any confusion
it's a bit weird and incredibly out of touch to refer to a bunch of tiktokers as refugees whilst the la wildfires are creating actual environmental refugees and the upcoming administration is literally waging a war against refugees and immigrants. should really rethink this title
sure. i think it's a great moment to go against the grain of what people are being complicit in even when it comes to language and descriptors, especially given the state of social media. given your newsletters reach it would've been a great moment to call out why this term is tasteless and shouldn't be used and bring attention to how people run with things from tiktok with little to no pushback and even why people have such polarizing feelings around tiktokers because they are unironically calling themselves refugees during a natural disaster. just a thought!

I know RedNote won’t last but love an app that virtually has no chance at advertising in a big way.
